Windows 8.1 'Update 2' by Misaki2009 Windows 8.1 'Update 2' by Misaki2009
Can't wait to get my hands on it :D I didn't miss the old Start Menu but I love new features :))

EDIT: This is NOT a concept. Here's a video with the Start Menu in action presented at BUILD 2014 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXeECx…

Bad News, it was scrapped, good news, its going to still be in the first leak of Windows codename Threshold (Build 9788) Onwards.    :)

I know :( Update 2 feels useless now that it won't have any UI changes...

I know, but the watermark just makes them look bad, also there's nothing new that 9788 didn't have.

the watermark says Build 9600 (which is definitely Windows 8.1) but can be followed by a 5 digit number which can be anything over 17031 (which is Update 1)... It will probably be Update 2 or even Windows 8.2

I think the idea is good, just think about what you can do if you use a Visual Style that changes Start Menu's UI :D

This will rather be Windows 9 than Windows 8.1 update 2.

That's what I thought too when I first saw it, but the guy that presented it said that it's not a new version of Windows but rather an update for 8.1

It might just be some Update 1 features added at last minute.

Unfortunately no, they said that these features, including a new Store won't be released with Update 1 :( Also, Update 1 has already been compiled a month ago and already distributed via MSDN and TechNet, these changes are not included :(

Take a look here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXeECx…

He said "And I'm not here to announce the next version of Windows". This assure us that it won't be released in Windows 9 only.

He also said "And we're making this available to all Windows 8.1 users as an update". Definitely NOT Update 1.

It is official, since it was PUBLISHED my Microsoft on MSDN and TechNet... I case you don't know, MSDN and TechNet are Microsoft's websites ;) and the iso files were released OFFICIALLY by Microsoft for their subscribers, it's another thing that the files were reuploaded on torrent websites... but the content of the iso files are FINAL and REAL.

Also, the date of April 8th, 2014 is the date when Windows 8.1 Update 1 will be made available for public as an update via Windows Update (as .msu files). Trust me, the Start Menu will NOT be released on Update 1. I can assure you 100%. The guy that presented Windows 8.1's future update (not Update 1) said that it will NOT be released with Update 1 and it is NOT Windows 9 either, so that makes sense, it will be Windows 8.1 Update 2 or Windows 8.2.

you get it after modding the registry or from a leaker but it's not officially announced yet not before 8th of april
MS admits that removing the start menu was like removing a warm blanket

Why? It's 10 times better than Windows 7. It's faster, better, more accessible, the Start is back, metro apps can be accessed in the window mode, and the list can continue. It's like Windows 7.1 now :D

I know it is, I'm using it myself and I like it way better than Windows 7. What I meant was that no matter what MS will do, many people won't even try it, because the experience it offers varies from one from older versions of Windows.
